Ticklish at La Mesa Eco Park

Tickled by greenery

La Mesa Eco Park is the perfect way to enjoy a sunny Sunday. It is lush with greenery:  trees are shady enough to provide a cool retreat and the grounds are clean enough to lie down and enjoy the view of the clear blue sky. It has picnic grounds, a salt water swimming pool and a kalesa ride. Plus there’s a pavement that allows for roller skating, roller blading and bike riding. But for me, it was all about the greenery. We  were breathing fresh oxygen and listening to nothing but our own voices. No pollution, no honking, no internet – just the three of us, enjoying each other for one whole afternoon.

Malarayat Golf and Country Club (Lipa City, Batangas)

Malarayat Golf and Country Club

Mt. Malarayat is just 2 hours aways from Manila. Go see it!

Fish and Duck Pond

Our duck hosts, Huey, Dooey and Louie

The next time you need to get out of  the city, consider Lipa! As we made our 2 hour journey, we could feel the air getting fresher, time moving slower and the prices getting cheaper. We stayed for 1 night at the Malarayat Golf and Country Club, a spacious retreat with a jaw dropping view of Mt. Malarayat. Unfortunately for us, the swimming pool was being cleaned and the playground was run down. However, we made the most of the fish and duck pond, the endless greenery and the driving range.  There are many commercial outlets nearby to satisfy your needs clike SM Lipa, Robinson’s Mall, Max’s Restaurant, Starbucks –you name it. The best part is having all those commercial conveniences in a laidback atmosphere. So if you want some no frills family time to catch up on sleep and delight in nature, go to Lipa!

Hot Springs (Los Banos, Laguna)

Laguna Hot Springs Resort

Laguna Hot Springs - fun and healthy!

We recently discovered the antithesis of a beach outing . You know how heavenly it feels to be in the sweltering heat and dive into the cool ocean? It’s like instant liquid air conditioning. Well now that it’s rainy season the air is a bit cooler, cold water is not so inviting is it? But how about a pool of heated water mineralized with sulfur? Dunk yourself in the hot springs of Laguna and make rainy season fun AND healthy. We not only slept like logs but woke up with a smile! I can’t say the beach has the same effect.

Check out any of these Hot Spring resorts or rent a house for the day.

Shangri-la  Mall (Ortigas, Pasig City)

Shangri-La Mall carousel

THIS is Shangri-La to my toddler

Ice cream parlor with cereal

A great treat for kids!

Once we arrive on the spacious second floor, my daughter squeals with delight at the sight of the carousel. The nearby water fountain, photo exhibit and ceiling installations stimulate her even more– and we haven’t spent a single cent yet.  CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) and Cerealicious are situated by the carousel making  Shangri-la Mall a  perfect play date destination. And it’s great to get some shopping done too.

Pretend House

It’s a play space where my daughter can pretend to shop at the market, to cook in a kitchen, play dress-up, play house, and even conduct a puppet show. At P300 an hour, it is well worth the chance for your child to explore on her own. Enroll in a class and use of the play space is free.
